Modern Day Know Nothing

In case you didn't know, John Edwards has some anti-Catholics working on his campaign staff.

Here in 2007, it's the last acceptable form of discrimination!

I'm not big on politically correct speech, but it does nonetheless need to be called out.

You write that religion is "the last acceptable form of discrimination," which is laughable in and of itself, but even moreso when you consider the organization you linked to is run by Bill Donohue, whose right wing vitriol is among the most disgusting around these days, rivalling Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and even Ann Coulter. Well, no, nobody rivals Ann Coulter. But here's a sampling of some of Donohue's remarks:

1. "Hollywood is controlled by secular Jews who hate Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular. It's not a secret, okay? And I'm not afraid to say it. ... Hollywood likes anal sex. They like to see the public square without nativity scenes. I like families. I like children. They like abortions."

2. Gays were all of a sudden worrying if people would start aborting kids when they found out the DNA suggested the kid might be gay or God forbid, we'd run out of little gay kids, so all of a sudden, they became pro-life.

3. He refers to it as the "gay death style."

[Clarifier: my language was unclear. I meant to say that being anti-Catholic is the last acceptable form of discrimination.]

I don't want encourage or discourage any opinion on Bill D. His site sources the information, no one else does.

I'm only human. So are all the people you just named. Your noting of the weaknesses of others does serve the good of reiterating that no one person or group has all the answers.

And yet, your outrage is at solely at me and Bill D., and not:
a.) Edwards' bigot staffers who wrote this, or
b.) Edwards himself who condones it, and therefore shares in the promotion of bigotry.

Would you have also gone to bat for Michael Richards by attacking the Jewish community for any indiscretions they may have done in history? Of course you wouldn't.

And why not? Because wrongs do not get righted by the past wrongs of the wrongee.

All I'm saying is, it's disingenuous to claim anti-Catholic sentiment is the only acceptable form of discrimination by quoting a Catholic who openly discriminates himself.

I haven't examined what the Edwards bloggers actually wrote, so I'll take your word for it. I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy.
