GOP Power Ranks
Fred Thompson may be running for president.
As the article mentions, this answers a GOP need for someone both from the South and without ties to Washington.
It would help if he were a governor, but former Law & Order cast member should do.
Now that we’re on GOP Presidential nominees, I should fill out the rest of my power rankings:
Hosting a Parade
Ron Paul
{Big Step}
“We Think We Get It, And Maybe We’re Close, But We Just Don’t” Land
Brownback
Huckabee
Gilmore
“We Don’t Get It, And We’re Not Close to Getting It” Land
T. Thompson
HunterTancredo
F. Thompson
Romney
McCain

Just throwing this out there as an elitist Northern liberal, but ... why is it that this country is incapable of electing anyone president unless they are from the South? We've elected just one non-Southern president since 1960, and that even includes three Democrats.
If you've ever looked at a list of standardized test scores by state, it's safe to say that the South doesn't hold the monopoly on brains, and while there are a number of damn wealthy people down there, the bulk of the nation's money still resides in the Northeast, Chicago and the West Coast. So what gives? Anybody?

Southerners seem to only vote for Southerners. Everyone else seems to be more tolerant regarding one's upbringing. This may actually go hand-in-hand with education. Thoughts?

Two non-Southerners have been elected, Nixon & Reagan were from California.
I think the whole South thing is a bit overstated. Bush I was only a quasi-Texan, Reagan defeated an incumbent Southerner, and no one from the South even ran for the big two parties in 68, 72, 84, or sort of 88.
I think there is a lot of truth to an inherent advantage held by incumbents in all races (why term limits help democracy - that's for another post). Since 64, incumbents are 5-2.
I think the distinction isn't America's inability to elect a Northerner, but our inability to elect a Northern Democrat. Only Kerry has even won the Democratic primary since Carter, and I don't see the ambulance chaser doing it this year.

Check that on the Dem primary, i skipped a decade of Dukakis and Mondale.
